About Us

Marianne Thompson is gaining international recognition as a unique and dynamic artist, highly skilled in her use of the palette knife and her facility with mixing and matching color.  She has work hanging across Canada and the U.S., notably Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP in Winnipeg MB,  Notre Dame University in South Bend IN and St. Mary's Church in Hull MA. She has won awards both for her painting and carving.  In December of 2013 she was a finalist in The Artist's Magazine's annual art competition in the Landscape category for her painting "Matrix - Lake of the Woods." Her work has been featured in publications in the US and Canada.

Marianne has had the great honor of studying under and more recently and teaching alongside the renowned Gloucester Plein Air painter (and president of the Rockport Art Association) David P. Curtis .  In May she taught her first Plein Air/ Palette knife /Oil Painting workshop through the RAA.  Benefitting from Mr.Curtis' expertise in the field of Plein Air and has expanded her vocabulary as she continues the conversation the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson began with the land.  The love of the Canadian landscape, and the wrenching empathy with which she relates it is all her own. This is the story her life is devoted to telling.

Marianne is now a member of the Western Avenue Studios Artist's Association and Lowell Art Association and hosts open studios, where you can see her work in person, on the first Saturday of every month from 12pm - 5pm here:
