EXPRESSIVE IMPRESSIONISM

Is how I like to describe my work, banking on the fact that 1/3 times this title leads to accidental compliments ("Oh, yes, she's an impressive expressionist!")

When I had the priviledge of working under John Smith, at John Smith School of Art in Toronto*, we would, in a nutshell, spend the morning painting what we saw (still lives, etc) and the afternoon was spent painting what we felt, or what we were thinking.

Although I have dry spells in both departments from time to time, both aspects are essential, I feel, to my work.  The "Plein Air" pages are devoted to the literal, representational aspect of my work - which can be classified as impressionistic.  This page is reserved for the stuff that comes from within.  What is consistent in the two modalities is the tendency to paint how and what I am feeling (how - eg, delighted; what - eg., strong winds).

And again, I apologize for the broken links as I reconstruct this site from the ground up. Ultimatley each image on this page will be linked to its own page.(May 15th, 2012)
